Top US kayak-fishermen go head-to-head for the biggest catch
The weekend’s EKFT September SLAM kicked off at the Captains’ meeting on Friday night, September 27th, 2013 at Brus Room in Pompano Beach, Florida. The night was full of great food and prize give-aways including a Hobie Lanai Kayak, a GoPro camera, Costa del Mar sunglasses, vacation packages, over $10,000 worth in raffle prizes and free goodies for all the registered anglers!
All week the forecast called for bad weather, luckily for Extreme it never came! 82 anglers launched from Pompano Beach just north of the pier the following Saturday morning. They were all pumped and ready to win! Amongst these fishermen many made the trip all the way from Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, Orlando and Tampa to compete in the EKFT September SLAM!
The onshore festivities began not long after the anglers departed into the calm morning seas. Tents were set up all around the big stage. Free entertainment, food, drinks and games were part of the distraction as the crowd waited anxiously on the beach for the anglers to return. Brian Nelli ended up being one of the last anglers to bring his fish to the weigh in station, everyone was in shock!
Brian Nelli ended up winning biggest pelagic fish and heaviest total weight, which was 34.3 lbs. He won the coveted trophy made by Crown Trophy, $3,000 donated from main sponsor Turbo USA, a pair of Costa sunglasses, the ENGEL SUP paddle board worth $1,599 and a Guy Harvey necklace. Joe Kraatz with a total weight of 24.5lbs wins second place taking home a Hobie Mirage Outback kayak from one of EKFT’s main sponsors, Nautical Ventures, a pair of Costa sunglasses, $500 and a plaque from Crown Trophy.
Taking third place was Rob Rodriguez, with a total weight of 22.1lbs, swooping up a Hobie Revo kayak from Nautical Ventures, a pair of Costa sunglasses and a plaque. Austin Collins nets fourth place with a total of 15.7lbs winning the Imagine Wizard Angler SUP Paddle Board from Adventure sports, a Penn Spinfisher V ssv6500 Reel from Blue Marlin Chronicles, Costa sunglasses and a plaque. Andy Brown took fifth with a total of 13lbs, he was happy to receive Costa Sun Glasses & a check for $200. Brad Schwartz wins Trash Can Slam with a huge Barracuda. He takes home a pair of Costa Sunglasses and a plaque!!!
